Thursday Class 10/20/11

Due to a family emergency I need to cancel Studio Orchestra for Thursday 10/20. I'm very sorry for the late notice. I was hoping to get the class covered.

We will resume recording next week on Tuesday.

If you are in my MIDI 1 class on Thursday, class is NOT cancelled. You will have a substitute teacher proctoring your exam.

Studio Orchestra Week 4

This week we will continue trying some of the songs we suggested.

MW Class:For Monday let's try Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. Maybe our rappers can write some original lyrics over the riffs? Or we can do with original lyrics if someone will sing it..
On Wednesday how about we try Bring the Noise by Public Enemy and Anthrax.

TTh Class: I had requests for some Beatles-- I'm thinking maybe Dear Prudence.
Also Frankie Beverley and Maze-- we could try Golden Time of the Day.

Studio Orchestra Week 1

Welcome to Studio Orchestra! By now both classes have met and we have jammed a bit. There is lots of talent this semester, and I can tell we will have fun.

Studio Orchestra Summer 2011

Welcome to Studio Orchestra! I hope you are ready for a fun semester. We will be playing music and listening to some of your favorite music every class. Please bookmark this page and check here every week. I will be posting some information about the class regularly, along with some links you may find interesting.

What to bring:
Guitarists and Bassists: bring your instruments, cables, picks. HCC has amps and I'll bring one or 2 of mine.
Drummers: Bring sticks. HCC has drums and cymbals, but not the best.
Keyboard Players: HCC has a Korg Triton for us to use.
Singers and Rappers: Bring your voice. We have PA system and mics.
Everyone else: Bring yourself. We'll find something for you to do.

You will also need a pen and a folder or binder to keep handouts and take notes. Good news: no textbook to buy!

Studio Orchestra Week 13

This week we will begin recording our original songs in both classes. Please be on time and prepared to record your parts!

Rappers/singers/ lyric writers: Please write out your lyrics so I can see them! I would prefer if you can make me a copy. I will need to arrange the order of the verses, etc.

We only have this week and next to record, so please help out by being prepared, focused, and willing to work!

Studio Orchestra Week 12

OK, this is the time some of you have been waiting for! We will begin writing some original music in both classes this week. Bring your creativity! Rappers, please be in on the creative process from the beginning. We will want your input, and will need to plan the number of verses.

Also, if you haven't brought in music to listen to, this is a good week to do it!

Lastly, don't forget your journals every week!!!

Time to Record!

Spring Break is OVER! Time to get down to business. We will be recording in both classes this week.

MW Class-- Beat It. We will track drums, bass, guitar, keys, and scratch vocals on Monday, and add other parts as we go in the next few classes.

TTh Class-- Hard to Handle. We will track guitar solos and keyboards on Tuesday, vocals on Thursday, and everything else in the next class or 2.

We will begin writing something original after we finish basic tracks on the first song.

Studio Orchestra Week 2

This week we will be playing some blues. We will also begin listening to the songs you bring in for the Listening assignment. Please remember to fill out the Listening Assignment sheet and bring it to class. You will turn it in when we listen to your song.

You will also need to begin the Journal assignment. Please write 1 journal entry per week, and clip it into the notebook, filed alphabetically under your last name.
